New Permanent Representative of Cuba presents credentials to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva

Presentation of Credentials

 

Juan Antonio Quintanilla Román, the new Permanent Representative of Cuba to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Tatiana Valovaya, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Quintanilla Román had been serving as Director of International Organizations in the General Directorate for Multilateral Affairs and International Law at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cuba since 2019. He was Head of the Department of Multilateral Socio-humanitarian Affairs in the General Directorate from 2017 to 2019, and a specialist in the General Directorate from 2014 to 2017.

Mr. Quintanilla Román served as Third Secretary in the Permanent Mission of Cuba to the United Nations Office at Geneva from 2010 to 2014. He started his career as a Prosecutor at the Municipal and Provincial Prosecutor’s Office in Matanzas, Cuba from 2004 to 2005. He then attended a training course for diplomatic attaches at the Higher Institute of International Relations in Havana from 2005 to 2006, before becoming a specialist in the Directorate of Multilateral Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cuba from 2007 to 2010.

He has participated in Cuban delegations to various multilateral meetings and conferences, including the Universal Periodic Review of the Human Rights Council, various human rights treaty bodies, and Cuba’s dialogues on human rights with the European Union, the United States, the International Labour Conference, the International Telecommunication Union and the World Health Assembly.

Mr. Quintanilla Román has a degree in law from the University of Havana (2004), a master’s degree in international relations from the Higher Institute for International Relations Raul Roa Garcia (2006), and a diploma in public administration (2018). He was born on 30 April 1980 in Camaguey, Cuba. He is married and has a son.
