NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF MEXICO PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG

Juan Jose Ignacio Gomez Camacho, the new Permanent Representative of Mexico to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Sergei Ordzhonikidze, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva Mr. Gomez Camacho had been serving as Ambassador of Mexico to the Republic of Singapore, and concurrently the Union of Myanmar and the Sultanate of Brunei Darussalam since 2006.

Mr. Gomez Camacho has held various positions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and was appointed Director General for Human Rights and Democracy in 2000. During his tenure he was responsible for Mexico’s Foreign Policy on Human Rights and Democracy and served as Mexico’s Attorney in international human rights litigation.

A career diplomat, Mr. Gomez Camacho joined the Mexican Foreign Services in July 1988 and served at the Embassy of Mexico in the United Kingdom from 1994 to 1997 and at the Mexican Permanent Mission to the Organization of American States from 1997 to 2000. He has also led Mexican delegations to multilateral and bilateral meetings and negotiations.

Mr. Gomez Camacho holds a master degree in International Law from the School of Law at Georgetown University, Washington, D.C. and a bachelor’s in Law from the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City. He has written several articles on the subject of international law and has been a professor of international law at the Universidad Iberoamericana. He was born on 6 October 1964 in Mexico City and is married with two daughters.
